Bill "Spaceman" Lee may not be a name that rings a bell for many baseball fans, but to those who follow college baseball, he is a legend. Lee, a left-handed pitcher, played for the University of Southern California from 1966 to 1968. During his time with the Trojans, he was one of the most dominant pitchers in the country, leading the nation in strikeouts in 1967 and 1968.
Lee was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 1968 MLB Draft, but he never signed with the team. Instead, he chose to continue his education at USC, where he earned a degree in psychology. After graduating from USC, Lee signed with the Montreal Expos as a free agent, and he made his major league debut in 1973, at the age of 26.
Lee went on to have a successful career in the majors, pitching for the Expos, Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. He was a three-time All-Star and won 117 games over the course of his career. However, it is his accomplishments at USC that truly set him apart.
