Who is both a great baseball player and a successful manager?
Joe Torre is a former Major League Baseball player and manager. He is best known for his time with the New York Yankees, where he won four World Series championships as manager. Torre was a seven-time All-Star as a player and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Torre was a four-sport star at Sewanhaka High School. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Braves in 1960 and made his major league debut in 1961. Torre retired as manager of the Yankees in 2007 and joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as a special advisor in 2008. He was named the Dodgers' manager in 2008 and led the team to the National League West championship in 2009.
