How Many Outs Are in a Baseball Inning?
In baseball, an inning consists of two halves. The top half of the inning is when the visiting team bats, and the bottom half of the inning is when the home team bats. Each half-inning ends when three outs are recorded.
An out can be recorded in a number of ways:
- A batter can be struck out by the pitcher.
- A batter can hit a fly ball that is caught by a fielder.
- A batter can ground out to a fielder.
- A batter can be called out for running out of the batter's box without hitting the ball.
- A batter can be called out for interference.
Once three outs have been recorded, the half-inning ends and the teams switch sides. A full game of baseball consists of nine innings, but a game can end sooner if one team wins by a certain number of runs (usually 10 or 15).
