How does the scoring system work in baseball?
In baseball, runs are scored when a player advances all four bases -- home plate, first base, second base, and third base -- and touches home plate again. A player can advance bases by hitting the ball and reaching base, by being walked or hit by a pitch, or by stealing a base.
The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.
There are a few different ways to score a run in baseball:
- Home run: A home run is hit when the batter hits the ball over the outfield fence without it touching the ground. The batter and any runners on base score a run.
- Single: A single is hit when the batter hits the ball into the field of play and reaches first base safely. The batter scores a run if there are runners on second and third base.
- Double: A double is hit when the batter hits the ball into the field of play and reaches second base safely. The batter scores a run if there is a runner on third base.
- Triple: A triple is hit when the batter hits the ball into the field of play and reaches third base safely. The batter scores a run if there is a runner on second base.
