Why is it difficult to put a football under water than a table tennis ball?

Water is denser than air, so it requires more force to move an object through it. A football is larger and has a greater surface area than a table tennis ball, so it experiences more water resistance when submerged. Additionally, the air inside a football is compressed when it is submerged, which further increases the force required to keep it under water.

The shape of a football also contributes to the difficulty in submerging it. The curved surface of a football creates a pocket of air that resists water penetration. In contrast, the flat surface of a table tennis ball allows water to flow over it more easily.

As a result of these factors, it is significantly more difficult to keep a football submerged under water than a table tennis ball.

  1. Why does water feel cold when you get out of the shower? Evaporation of water from your skin cools it down.
  2. Why do raindrops fall down? Gravity pulls them down towards the Earth.
  3. Why is the sky blue? Sunlight is scattered by molecules in the atmosphere, with blue light being scattered more than other colors.
  4. Why do leaves change color in the fall? Less sunlight causes chlorophyll production to decrease, revealing other pigments like yellow and orange.
  5. Why does ice float on water? Water expands as it freezes, causing ice to be less dense than liquid water.
