Taufik Hidayat, an Indonesian badminton player, is of Malay ethnicity. He was born in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia on August 10, 1984. His father, Ahmadi, is of Javanese descent, while his mother, Imas, is of Sundanese descent. Taufik is the youngest of four siblings.

Taufik began playing badminton at the age of six. He quickly showed promise and began competing in tournaments at a young age. In 1999, he won the Asian Junior Championships. In 2000, he made his Olympic debut at the Sydney Olympics. He won a silver medal in the men's singles event, losing to South Korea's Ji Shin-peng in the final.

Taufik continued to achieve success in the years that followed. He won the All England Open in 2003 and 2004. He also won the World Championships in 2005. In 2006, he was ranked world No. 1 in men's singles.

Taufik retired from international badminton in 2014. He is considered one of the greatest badminton players of all time. He was inducted into the BWF Hall of Fame in 2018.
