Who is Gabriela Sabatini?
Gabriela Sabatini was an Argentine former professional tennis player who won the US Open in 1990, defeating Steffi Graf in the final. She also won the Wimbledon title in 1988, defeating Steffi Graf in the final. At the time of her retirement in 1996, Sabatini was the world's No. 3 ranked player in singles and No. 1 in doubles.
Sabatini was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on May 16, 1970. She began playing tennis at the age of six and turned professional in 1985. Sabatini won her first Grand Slam title at the 1985 French Open, becoming the first Argentine woman to win a Grand Slam singles title. She won a total of 27 singles titles and 14 doubles titles during her career.
Sabatini retired from tennis in 1996 at the age of 26. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2006. She now runs a tennis academy in Buenos Aires and is a UN Goodwill Ambassador.
