How is Pickleball Different from Tennis?
Pickleball and tennis are two popular racquet sports, but they have several key differences.
Equipment: Pickleball uses a paddle that is smaller and lighter than a tennis racket. The paddles have a solid face instead of strings. Pickleballs are also smaller and lighter than tennis balls, and they have holes drilled into them to reduce air resistance.
Court Size: Pickleball courts are smaller than tennis courts and are surrounded by a fence or wall. The net is also lower than a tennis net.
Gameplay: Pickleball is played with two or four players who hit the ball back and forth over the net. The ball must land within the court boundaries. Unlike tennis, players can volley the ball (hit it before it bounces) on both the serve and return. Pickleball also has a double-bounce rule, which means that the ball must bounce on each side of the net before being volleyed.
Scoring: Pickleball is played to 11 points (or 15 or 21 points in some variations). A game is won when one team reaches the target score by at least 2 points.
Skill Level: Pickleball is generally considered to be easier to learn than tennis. It requires less physical effort and athleticism, and the smaller court size makes it easier to cover.
Other Differences:
- Pickleball is a non-contact sport, while tennis can involve physical contact between players.
- Pickleball is typically played on a hard surface, while tennis can be played on a variety of surfaces including grass, clay, and hard court.
- Pickleball is often seen as a more social sport, as it is easier for players of all ages and skill levels to participate.
