Is Argentinosaurus really the largest dinosaur ever?
Argentinosaurus is often cited as the largest dinosaur ever, but recent discoveries have cast doubt on this claim. In 2014, a new species of sauropod dinosaur called Patagotitan mayorum was discovered in Argentina. This dinosaur was estimated to be about 115 feet long and weighed more than 70 tons, making it significantly larger than Argentinosaurus. However, some scientists argue that Patagotitan mayorum is not a valid species and that it is actually a juvenile Argentinosaurus.
Another contender for the title of largest dinosaur is the dinosaur called Dreadnoughtus schrani. This dinosaur was discovered in Argentina in 2009 and was estimated to be about 85 feet long and weighed more than 59 tons. While Dreadnoughtus schrani is smaller than Patagotitan mayorum, it is still significantly larger than Argentinosaurus.
Ultimately, the question of which dinosaur is the largest ever is still a matter of debate. However, the discovery of Patagotitan mayorum and Dreadnoughtus schrani has shown that Argentinosaurus is not the clear-cut winner that it once seemed to be.
