What did the real Elephant Man look like?
Joseph Merrick, known as the Elephant Man, was a severely disfigured man who lived in England in the late 19th century. His face, body, and limbs were covered in large, warty growths, and he had difficulty speaking and walking.
Merrick's condition was caused by a rare genetic disorder called Proteus syndrome. This disorder affects the growth of bones, skin, and other tissues, and can cause a wide range of physical deformities.
