The largest crocodile ever recorded is the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), known as Cassius. It was captured in Australia in 2011 and measured 5.48 meters (18 feet) long. Cassius weighed an estimated 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds).

There are no living crocodiles that are of comparable size to Cassius. However, there are a few that come close. In 2007, a saltwater crocodile measuring 5.2 meters (17 feet) was caught in the Philippines. And in 2016, a Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) measuring 4.9 meters (16 feet) was caught in Zimbabwe.
