Has anyone hit a quadruple jump in figure skating or does everyone cap out at a triple?

Quadruple jumps are the highest-scoring jumps in figure skating and involve a rotation of four revolutions in the air. The quad loop is the most difficult quad jump, and very few skaters have successfully landed it in competition. The first quad jump ever completed in competition was a quad toe loop by Kurt Browning in 1988. Since then, only a handful of skaters have landed quads, and most of them have been women. The first woman to land a quad in competition was Miki Ando in 2002.

As of March 2023, only five skaters have landed a quad loop in competition: Nathan Chen, Yuzuru Hanyu, Shoma Uno, Ilya Malinin, and Ilia Kvitelashvili. All of these skaters are men, which means that no woman has yet successfully landed a quad loop in competition.

There are many reasons why quads are so difficult to land. First, they require a tremendous amount of power and athleticism. Skaters must be able to generate enough speed and lift to complete the four revolutions. Second, quads require a high level of technical skill. Skaters must be able to control their bodies and land cleanly on one foot. Finally, quads are often risky, and skaters can easily injure themselves if they attempt them.

Despite the difficulty, quads are becoming increasingly common in figure skating. As skaters continue to push the limits of the sport, it is likely that we will see even more quads in the future. And while no woman has yet landed a quad loop in competition, it is only a matter of time before someone does.
