How do I prepare an iPad for disposal?

Step 1: Back up your data

Connect your iPad to a computer and use iTunes or Finder to create a backup. This will preserve your photos, videos, contacts, and other important data.

Step 2: Remove your personal information

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap "Erase All Content and Settings." This will delete all of your personal information, including your Apple ID, passwords, and credit card information.

Step 3: Remove the SIM card

If your iPad has a cellular connection, remove the SIM card by opening the SIM tray with a paperclip or SIM ejector tool.

Step 4: Physically erase the iPad

Once you have removed all of your personal information, physically erase the iPad by holding down the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then, release the Volume Up button while continuing to hold down the Power button. When the recovery mode screen appears, connect your iPad to a computer and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the device.
