What was Adolf Hitler's middle name?

Adolf Hitler's middle name was Alois. He was born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau am Inn, Austria-Hungary. His father, Alois Hitler, Sr., was a customs official, and his mother, Klara Pölzl, was a peasant. Hitler had five siblings, but only one, Paula, survived to adulthood.

Hitler's middle name was given to him in honor of his godfather, Alois Pommer, a wealthy farmer and innkeeper. Hitler's father had originally intended to name his son Adolf, but Pommer insisted that the boy be named Alois after him. Hitler's middle name was a source of some embarrassment to him later in life, as he felt that it sounded too Austrian.

In 1918, Hitler changed his middle name to Adolf. He did this to make himself sound more German and to distance himself from his Austrian roots. Hitler's new middle name was a reflection of his growing nationalism and his desire to create a Greater Germany.
