How does the curling sport work and what is the broom for

Curling is a team sport played on ice in which players slide stones made of granite towards a target. The goal of the game is to score points by getting your stones closer to the centre of the target than your opponents'.

Curling is played on a sheet of ice that is 146 feet long and 42 feet wide. The target, known as the "house," is a circular area at the end of the sheet of ice. The house is divided into four concentric circles, with the innermost circle being worth 4 points, the second circle being worth 3 points, the third circle being worth 2 points, and the outermost circle being worth 1 point.

Each team has four players. Each player throws two stones per end. An end is one complete turn through all eight players. The team with the highest score at the end of the game wins.

The broom is used to sweep the ice in front of the stone as it slides down the ice. This helps to reduce friction and allows the stone to travel farther. The broom can also be used to change the direction of the stone as it slides.
