Why does the Olympic Flag have only 5 rings instead of 7 when there are 7 continents?
The Olympic flag was designed by Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games. He chose to depict five rings on the flag because they represented the five continents that were participating in the Olympic Games at the time: Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania. Antarctica was not recognized as a continent at the time and therefore was not included in the design.
Despite the addition of two more recognized continents, Asia Minor (1956) and North America (1982), the Olympic flag has remained unchanged. This is because the flag is seen as a symbol of unity and equality among all nations, and changing the number of rings would detract from that meaning.
