How and when was the sport of ultimate frisbee invented?
The sport of Ultimate Frisbee was invented in 1968 by Joel Silver and Jared Kass, two high school students from Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. The game was originally called "Frisbee Football" and was played with a Wham-O Frisbee. The first game was played on January 1, 1968, between two groups of friends.
The game quickly became popular at Columbia High School and soon spread to other schools in the area. In 1972, the first Ultimate Frisbee tournament was held at Yale University. The tournament was a success and helped to further popularize the sport.
Ultimate Frisbee is now played in over 80 countries around the world. The sport is governed by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF). The WFDF hosts the World Ultimate Frisbee Championships every four years.
