What is the difference between a WBA super champion and a WBA regular champion?

In boxing, the World Boxing Association (WBA) recognizes two types of champions: super champions and regular champions. The difference between these two titles is as follows:

WBA Super Champion

  • Is the highest-ranked champion in a weight class.
  • Is typically the undisputed champion, meaning they hold all of the major world titles in their weight class.
  • Can only be dethroned by another super champion or by a fighter who wins an interim title and then defeats them.

WBA Regular Champion

  • Is the secondary champion in a weight class.
  • Is typically the former super champion who lost their title or a fighter who has won an interim title and not yet fought the super champion.
  • Can be dethroned by any fighter who wins an interim title and then defeats them.

In addition to the above, super champions have more privileges and recognition than regular champions. They are typically given preference in title fights and are often featured in more high-profile events.
