Why do they say New York Football Giants

When the New York Football Giants were playing in the Polo Grounds in Upper Manhattan, they shared the stadium with the New York Yankees baseball team, who were at the height of their fame in the 1920s and were known as the "Yankee Giants."

To differentiate themselves from the more popular baseball team, the football Giants began referring to themselves as the "Football Giants" in newspaper advertisements and game programs. The nickname stuck, and the team eventually dropped the "Football" part of their name, becoming simply the "New York Giants."

The Giants moved to New Jersey in 1975, but they kept their "New York" moniker, as they are still considered to be one of the two major professional football teams in the New York metropolitan area (the other being the New York Jets).
