What is Field Hockey Duration?

Field hockey is a fast-paced and exciting team sport. The duration of a field hockey game varies depending on the level of play.

Regular Season Games:

  • Youth and high school games: 2 halves of 30 minutes each
  • College and adult league games: 2 halves of 35 minutes each
  • International games: 4 quarters of 15 minutes each

Playoffs, Finals, and Overtime:

  • Playoff games: 2 halves of 35 minutes each
  • Finals: 2 halves of 40 minutes each
  • Overtime: 2 periods of 7.5 minutes each (if needed to break a tie)

Additional Notes:

  • Each half or quarter is divided into two 15-minute periods.
  • There is a 5-minute halftime break.
  • The clock stops during stoppages in play, such as penalties and injuries.
