Can Women Play on a Men's College Ice Hockey Team?
While it may not be common, there are no NCAA rules prohibiting women from playing on men's college ice hockey teams. In fact, there have been a few instances of women playing on men's teams at the collegiate level.
In 1992, Manon Rheaume became the first woman to play in a men's professional hockey game when she played for the Tampa Bay Lightning in an exhibition game against the St. Louis Blues. Rheaume also played in three other exhibition games with the Lightning, and in 1995, she signed a one-year contract with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, making her the first woman to sign a contract with an NHL team.
more recently, in 2016, Jessica Campbell became the first woman to play on am NCAA Division I men's hockey team when she joined the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers. Campbell played in three games for the Pioneers, recording two assists.
